REVISITING THE "DAYS OF GRUNGE PAYS"
Greetings !
On To Business !
The Dungen show at Nuemos was great . I stood and watched with all of my other friends from the "days of grunge pays" (Robert Roth , Ben Shephard,Megan Jasper)
......The term "schooled" comes to mind !
Their live sound was "groovier" than I imagined it would be , recalling early Fairport Convention , King Crimson , Deep Purple . It's strange to find ones-self inspired by young kids from Sweden , performing in a genre that you once helped to revolutionize 15 years earlier .
On the subject of the "days of grunge pays" , it looks like Robert Roth , Hiro and I will be getting together this week to work on new songs for a new Truly CD .
I can't wait to hear "Robert's Riffage" again and to hang with Hiro (who I haven't seen in three years) Be Warned !! The last time Robert and I played together we literally started an earthquake here in Seattle !
More good news , one of my favorite labels has expressed interest in releasing my new solo CD ! I don't want to "Jinx" anything by revealing any details or names but I will do so just as soon as it seems appropriate . Even if our negotiations don't result in an actual recording contract , I am just honored that they think of this new project as being worthy of consideration .
Not everything in my life is coming up roses .
I had to make a decision this week that was very painful to me .
As of Jan 1 2006 , I will no longer be an official member of the Dusty 45s .
Our separate schedules and side projects have become very difficult to manage .
I think it's safe to say that a few of us (myself included) have become over committed ! Too many projects , stretched too thin !
When a band hasn't been able to find the time to have even one practice in over a year while still finding time to pursue multiple projects outside of the band , it becomes obvious that it's time for a change .
I think that fans of the band deserve more from us than we've been able to provide in the last year .
I have nothing but love and respect for each member and I'm looking forward to finishing out the year with several shows that are currently on the calendar for Nov/Dec (including New Years Eve @ Fenix Underground)
Saturday Morning Rotation :
Elvis Presley 'Peace In The Valley' 3-CD Gospel Box . Songs this beautiful and inspired make me reconsider my feelings on religion ! Maybe there's something to this "Jesus stuff" after all !
Ben Webster 'Jazz Master' (verve) Ben is easily my favorite sax man ! Breezy ballads , perfect phrasing ! A true artist ! Check out the track 'Chelsea Bridge' .
Jesse Sykes 'Oh My Girl' (Barsuk) 'Tell The Boys' never fails to chill the spine !
Sigor Ros 'Takk' (Geffen) I still haven't completely come back to earth from their show at the Paramount a couple weeks back . Still diggin' the track about fast cars and loose girls !
Ladytron 'Witching Hour' (Ryko) Another beautifully-hypnotic release from these pop-princi' (That's plural for princess!)
Love ,
MP
P.S.
Don't forget to get yer derby on !!
Saturday the 15th , Final Bout !!
